The Power of Community

Loneliness is a national epidemic. The global experience of Covid has highlighted how important friends, neighbours and community are.  There has also been a increased awareness of how many people with learning disabilites are #alwaysinlockdown.  For far too long the focus has been on ‘services’ rather than community.  Now is the time to harness the natural community connections which flourished during the pandemic.

This course is co-faciliated by Sally Warren and Michelle McDermott or Katie Gibson-Peacock and Christopher Porter.

TRAINING WILL

This interactive training day for those supported, families, support workers and others will encourage all to:

  • focus people’s thinking on a good ordinary life for all
  • discover peoples passions and interests
  • support people to ‘map’ the opportunities in their local community
  • valuing and broadening the range of natural/unpaid relationships in people’s lives
  • unpick the barriers to people connecting with their community
  • explore how we support people to connect and find a place/s where they belong
  • develop a clear plan of actions for teams to ensure ACTION!
