Alicia wrks as a freelance consultant on housing issues, self directed support, supported living and a whole lot more. Alicia trained as a Biodynamic Psychotherapist and worked with people who have been institutionalised through long stay hospitals to find ways to express themselves and have ordinary relationships with others. This work ignited a passion for helping people to get ordinary lives rather than living in more acceptable 'institutions' in the community.
Alicia has had a lot of experience in helping people and families get the housing and support that is right for them through options such as home ownership and natural supports. She has also worked with local authorities to develop and lead on housing strategies as a senior manager and consultant.
Previously she was an adviser with Housing Options, a national housing advice service for people with a learning disability. Alicia is the co-author of Reach Standards in Supported Living and Gadgets, Gizmos & Gaining Independence - the use of Assistive Technology by People with a Learning Disability. She has developed accessible materials around housing and support including tools for planning, a video and an accessible guide for tenants. Alicia lives in Valencia, Spain with her husband and daughter.
